This course is equivalent to 2 units Preliminary and/or 2 units HSC
This course is for people who want to explore community work in both the government and non-government sectors, as a potential career. Responsibilities of community workers might include assisting the community to meet its own needs, enhancing the skills of individuals and/or groups within the community and developing and maintaining programs.
Pathways: This course can provide advanced standing in other Community Services Training Package qualifications including:
Certificate III and IV Community Services Work
Certificate III and Diploma in Children’s Services
Certificate III and IV Disability Work
Certificate III, IV and Diploma in Youth Work
Career Opportunities: Community services work in the youth, disability, aged care, housing, and alcohol and other drugs sector. This course is an introduction to community services work and does not provide an immediate career outcome.
What is this course about? What will students be doing?
This course is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge to:
- communicate appropriately to clients
- provide support to community groups
- work with others in community support teams
- understand the nature of the community services sector
- apply basic first aid
